Moreau Lake Swims/15k

Open Water Swims, Aquathlon, 15k Trail Run

Event Overview

Event Overview

The Moreau Lake Races will see several endurance events mixed in with lots of 80s music and unforgettable 80s fashion.  The race is scheduled for September 9, 2012 at Moreau Lake State Park, known as “one of the top outdoor locations in the country” (Reserve America). We had a fun 2011 which featured several races but, most importantly, lots of hits from the ’80s. The 2012 events include:

  • Aquathlon (1.5k swim, 5k trail run) – This is a great 1.5k swim followed by a 5k run on some fairly technical trails.
  • 1.5k open water swim – 1500 meter swim (1 loop of aquathlon swim course)
  • 3k open water swim – 3000 meter swim (2 loops of aquathlon swim course)
  • 15k trail run – a classic trail run: brutal run up the ‘Staircase of Death’ to start, leading into miles of rollers, creeks, etc. before making your way back down the ridge to the beach.

80s clothing highly recommended. Awards will consist of old-school custom trucker hats w/ the event logo. All participants will receive an event shirt or singlet. You may register for multiple events at a discount.

Registration is open. You will need to be a USAT member or buy a one-day USAT license for the aquathlon and swims ($10 for under 18, $12 for 18+). The 15k trail run is sanctioned by US Track & Field (no need to be a member). Maps for these events can be seen by clicking on the tabs above.

There is a $6 vehicle entry fee for the park. The beach offers full facilities including bathrooms, showers, changing areas, picnic tables and BBQs. Don’t be afraid to put some shrimp on the barbie when all is said and done.
